Happy Holidays!

Happy Holidays from your SDZG Library Team - Kathy, Kate & Beth!  We've had a great year and look forward to 2017. Thanks for all that you do to lead the fight against extinction!

Annual Book Exchange and Give Away

Give a book a new home for the holidays! The SDZG Library's 6th Annual Book Exchange & Giveaway is happening at the Library (Beckman Center) from Monday, 12/5, through Friday, 12/30, 8:00 am - 4:30 pm. All team members (staff and volunteers) are welcome.

Swing by to pick up new reading material and green holiday gifts, and/or drop off books from home or work that are no longer needed.

New Journals

Anthropocene: Innovation in the Human Age picks up where Conservation Magazine left off, exploring "how we can create a sustainable human age we actually want to live in."  You can browse the beautifully formatted print edition during your next Library visit or Outreach event. It's also available online from any computer or device.

The San Diego Zoo Global Library is the magazine's first institutional member / subscriber!

EcoAméricas provides continuing, objective coverage on Latin American environmental issues. All articles include detailed contact and resource information.  Access is automatic for team members working on-site or logged into VPN.

Staff working offsite may contact the Library to request access.

Book of the Month

Where the Animals Go

Tracking Wildlife with Technology in 50 Maps and Graphics

By James Cheshire and Oliver Uberti (2016)

San Diego Zoo Global contributors include David O’Connor, Megan Owen, Stesha Pasachnik, James Sheppard, and Mathias Tobler — see Mathias' jaguar data on p. 55!

"For thousands of years, tracking animals meant following footprints. Now satellites, drones, camera traps, cellphone networks, apps and accelerometers allow us to see the natural world like never before. Geographer James Cheshire and designer Oliver Uberti take you to the forefront of this animal-tracking revolution. Meet the scientists gathering wild data - from seals mapping the sea to baboons making decisions, from birds dodging tornadoes to jaguars taking selfies. Join the journeys of sharks, elephants, bumblebees, snowy owls, and a wolf looking for love. Find an armchair, cancel your plans and go where the animals go." —Publisher.
