Thanks in advance for helping us properly maintain our Society Library collection and associated records.

Welcome Kate

We are pleased to introduce our new team member, Library Research Specialist, Kate Jirik. Kate brings more than 12 years of experience in ecological research, writing, and public education. She specializes in integrative research and writing projects that make scientific information easier to understand, share, and use.

With the Library, Kate will be doing this by creating and updating our fact sheets. Prior to working at San Diego Zoo Global, she studied the habitat use and reproductive ecology of marine vertebrates.

Welcome aboard, Kate, and we're looking forward to new and updated fact sheets!

Half-Earth: Our Planet's Fight for Life, by E.O. Wilson (2016)

Half-Earth: Our Planet's Fight for Life

By Edward O. Wilson (2016)

In order to stave off the mass extinction of species, including our own, we must move swiftly to preserve the biodiversity of our planet, says Edward O. Wilson in his most impassioned book to date. Half-Earth argues that the situation facing us is too large to be solved piecemeal and proposes a solution commensurate with the magnitude of the problem: dedicate fully half the surface of the Earth to nature. —Publisher.

~ The San Diego Zoo Safari Park is mentioned on page 29, in Chapter 4: Elegy for the Rhinos. ~
