PATIENT NEWS
Lead Testing Kit for Eagles + Other Raptors

In the 27 years that Chintimini Wildlife Center has been rehabilitating wildlife, it has seen more than its fair share of Bald Eagles who are admitted to the clinic with varying levels of lead exposure or lead poisoning. Testing is an important step to assess proper treatment, but Chintimini does not have a lead testing kit. Staff must send blood samples to be tested at Michigan State University. It costs $80 and takes a week to receive results.

CWC is raising funds to buy this important rehabilitation tool. Our goal is to raise $2,800 to buy the kit and additional test strips, so we can begin testing eagles as soon as they are admitted and help them make a quicker recovery. For more information, read our blog post. To take action, donate to our Eagle Lead Testing Fund.

45+ Mallard Ducklings, 5 Canada Goslings & 1 Lonely Mallard Duckling

It was a major duckling month for us, with over 45 Mallard ducklings, 5 Canada goslings, and one lonely Merganser duckling admitted. Good news, we did find an adoptive Merganser family on our own pond. The others will have to be raised at the clinic. Our incubators are filled to the brim and these babies all need lots of attention, with constant feeding, watering, cleaning and swim time. Not to mention other bird and mammal orphans are pouring in.

Please consider volunteering or donating to our
Orphaned Animal Nursery Fund.

We also desperately need bedding for these messy babies. If you are shopping for your own pets or livestock and can pick up a bag or two of aspen or fir shavings, we would great appreciate it! Please do not bring cedar. Drop them off anytime during regular patient admitting hours, 9am-7pm, 7 days per week.

Remember, if you find an orphaned animal, call the clinic first before bringing it in. If it's after hours, refer to our website

HELP! CWC NEEDS TOWELS & BEDDING!

Spring cleaning? If you come across towels, sheets, pillow cases, blankets, pet beds, or flannels that you no longer need, we will gladly take them.

These items are essential bedding for our patients. Thanks in advance!

Special thanks to the following folks for hosting fundraisers for CWC this past month!
