A Tribute to Saint Nicholas

This holiday season, Sons of Thunder is proud to offer Wonderworker, a luscious barleywine named for the long-ago friend of God whose generous and daring way inspired the jolly Santa Claus of today we’ve grown to love.

Born around 270 AD, Nicholas’s life was marked by devotion to the Trinity and an extraordinary practice of gift-giving, especially in secret. In one moving exploit, Nicholas learned of a man upon whom financial ruin had come. Subsequently, his three daughters would likely be forced into slavery or prostitution for lack of the requisite dowries according to the cultural reality of the day.
Nicholas determined to intervene, but in secret. On the eve of each girl’s coming-of-age, Nicholas launched an invaluable bag of gold coins more than sufficient for a dowry through an open window in the family home. As the youngest daughter’s coming-of-age birthday approached, Nicholas caught wind of the father’s intention to identify him. He cunningly switched tactics, scaling the roof and releasing a small fortune down the chimney instead.

Wonderworker was a nickname given to Nicholas by his comrades, inspired by the many miracles in which he and the joyful Trinity collaborated.  With its generous 9.6% ABV and layered flavors of fresh bread, caramel, toffee, raisin and prune, we hope you'll find that this festive brew lives up to Wonderworker’s legendary and joyous life.
