Eger in June, 2016

Dear Subscriber,
Welcome to Ieger's June newsletter.

The weather is hotting up in Hungary, I'm ablaze just writing this. Not to worry, however, there are lots of ways to cool down if you're visiting Eger this summer. Most obviously there are  the
water attractions in the city and surrounding villages, then there are all the churches with their cool and dimly lit interiors, welcoming to even the most committed atheists and, finally, the shade of the forest in the Bükk National Park provides welcome respite from the not-uncommon 30 degree temperatures.

As you might have already guessed, this issue of the
ieger newsletter takes a look at how to keep cool during the hot summer months but that is not all we also look forward to some of the festivals going on this month and list the top 5 eateries in Eger, at leat according to us

Events and Programs - June 2016

If you don't want to take your chances in the Valley of the Beautiful Women, why not drop into one of the following establishments for some guaranteed quality wines to taste.

We promised you above that we'd fill you in on keeping cool in June - so here you go:
Market Shopping
Although there are a lot pf places to buy tacky, mass produced souvenirs in Eger, we would recommend trying to get along to one of the antique/flea markets currently the craze in and around the town. You can get a genuine piece of Hungarian craft at a fraction of the price (especially if you haggle) all the while enjoying a unique experience.
English Language Films in June
This month's film list is not great, in fact there are only two films not dubbed into Hungarian and they are... .Warcraft: Beginnings and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles:Shadows of the ......something or other.

Unless you have kids or are a kid, skip the cinema and go visit a church
Tour Guiding
Aggtelek - The Baradla Cave
We have expanded our list of languages in which we can provide guiding. Currently we have guides who can speak: English, Polish, Hungarian, Russian, German, Slovakian, Flemish and French. We are constantly adding more, so please visit regularly for updates.

There is also a new Aggtelek tour we are offering. The UNESCO certified National Park is a unique Karst landscape containing over 1200 caves, one of which is the 25 km Baradla cave. Please visit this page to discover more about our trip to this stunning, natural formation.

The Weather in Eger in....June
Average temperatures:  High 30°C / Low 15°C

The summer is setting in - blazing sun and blue sky punctuated by intense thunderstorms. If sightseeing is your thing, then take advantage of the long days by doing your visiting in the mornings and late afternoon/evenings and save the middle of the day for relaxing, reading, eating drinking - anything that doesn't involve baking to a crisp. On the other hand, su lovers - get out there and burn yourself crazy , welcome to paradise!

Luckily, most hotels and restuarants have air conditioning so the temperatures are more than bearable. For those of the pale variety, bring a hat, slap on the sunblock and avoid the middle of the day;  all should be well.

Good luck.
