You Can Make a HUGE Difference on Tuesday, May 3

reclaim! spring 2016 recap

We had an incredible time hosting our biannual RECLAIM! event in the warehouse last month. On Friday, April 15th, ten architecture/design firms brought in 3,192 pounds of expired design samples. During the following weekend, we saw over 150 visitors come through our warehouse.

Special thanks to
Pfaffmann and Associates for sponsoring RECLAIM! for the second year in a row. Thanks also to our wonderful volunteers, interns, and board members who took time out of their weekends to make this happen: Kai Nice, Chris DelFrate, Lauren Rauscher, Nisha Blackwell, Kevin Tucker, Leanne Longwill, Elizabeth Murray Finkelstein,  Deb Moore Ellsworth, Kim Payne, Althea Denlinger, Kristi Karsh, Megan Carleton, Shelby Weber, La Roche College's ECO Club, and Pitt Project Give

For those that missed out on April's event, don't worry! We'll be hosting RECLAIM! again this fall. Keep your eyes on the Creative Reuse Facebook page and our website for details. If you are interested in donating materials or sponsoring RECLAIM!, please contact our Materials Coordinator, Barbara Moore, at

volunteer spotlight! meet colin

We love our volunteers and interns! Meet our May volunteer in the spotlight, Colin!

Colin started volunteering in our shop this past November, and has since started helping out at our Creative Education programs! He is pictured here helping organize Ziploc bags in our shop (and doing so in style). We asked him a few questions about why he loves volunteering with Creative Reuse, and here's what he had to say:

Why did you want to start volunteering with Pittsburgh Center for Creative Reuse?

"It's such a cool place, and I just wanted to be a part of the awesomeness. I’ve been shopping here for much longer than I’ve volunteered. I also have a house filled with the neat things I got here."

What is your favorite thing about volunteering with us?

"Sorting stuff, and meeting new people. Not to mention the discount I get."

Lastly, what would you say to someone who is interested in getting involved with Creative Reuse?

Thank you, Colin! We're glad you decided to start volunteering with us after shopping for so long.

If you're interested in volunteering with Creative Reuse, check out the available opportunities on our website or email our volunteer coordinator Nate at We hope to see you soon!

intern with us!

We're still accepting applications from students and non-students alike for some super creative opportunities this summer. Especially if you're interested in Program Materials Management, Teaching Artist-ing, Bulk Materials and Warehouse, Program Administration, or Communications, check out our website for full descriptions and instructions on how to apply. Start dates and schedules are flexible.

item of the month

Silvery, flower covered vinyl! The people who donated this material said that the previous owner of their home had every wall and ceiling covered in fabric. This easy-to-clean material was left over from what was covering their kitchen!
creative conundrum reveal

Every month we will choose a material that we have in plentitude and want to celebrate the creative potential of. Come play with this material during our Creative Conundrum Lab, taking place at Creative Reuse on May 15 from 12 - 3 pm.

This month’s Creative Conundrum material is…

VHS Tapes!

What would YOU make with VHS tapes? Tell us on Facebook!
Cigar boxes keep coming into the shop...and they leave just as fast. Grab 'em while you can.
Baskets galore!
Enough circular knitting needles for everyone in your knitting circle.
Lovely stone beads. Our bead section is fully stocked.
Regular and decorative edged scissors for all your cutting needs.
Useful, small carabiners.
Metal cookie cutters are not for cutting metal cookies - or are they?!?!?!
A vintage, jointed, paper maquette.
Doll head lollies do not taste great, but sure do look lovely!
We have a lot of fun on social media. We know you do, too! Pick your poison:
