upcoming programs

Here’s what the Creative Education Team is planning for March!

  • We’ll be kicking off the month at SciTech Days at the Carnegie Science Center, March 1 - 4. This event is geared towards middle school and high school students. We’ll be making tech-reuse-design connections by bringing computer parts and turning them into wearables so that participants can display their STEAM interests loud and proud.
  • On March 12th we’re bringing a Superheroes Edition Reuse-A-Palooza to HeroFest 2016 for Heart Prints Center for Early Education. This event is all about Heroes, so there will be lots of materials for making capes, masks, badges and heroic medals. We’ll turn everyone into a Superhero of Reuse!
  • Are you interested in volunteering at Creative Education programs? We are hosting a Volunteer Orientation on March 16 from 6:30 - 8:30 pm. If you are interested in attending, be sure to fill out a volunteer application here!
  • On March 19th we’re heading back to the Carnegie Library of Homestead and bringing on the sewing. We’ve got a great program called “Pouches, Bags and Pockets!”
Keep up to date on our program appearances by following us on Facebook and our website!

february program recap
Here’s what the Creative Education team accomplished in February:
  • We made hearts sing with our crafting station at “The Birds & the Bees” After Dark event at the Carnegie Museum of Natural History. Be sure to admire the dioramas, cards and gifts that were made that night, which you can view in this Facebook album.
  • We were joined by an Odyssey of the Mind team, who rented our shop and used our open-ended Bulk materials to fashion props for a competitive skit.
  • Guess what?! We Heart You! To show it, we offered free Valentine’s Day card-making in our shop. Take a look at the love-inducing cards here.
  • The “Secret Pittsburgh” Literature class from University of Pittsburgh visited our shop for a field trip. They’re creating a guidebook about hidden gems in Pittsburgh. We'll be sure to share the guidebook with you when we get a hold of it!
  • We brought trophy-making joy to the Carnegie Library of Homestead. Kids and their families had a great time putting together trophy parts and turning them into sculpture. See the photos here.
  • We went to the Urban Garden Forum at Neu Kirche Contemporary Art Center, an event to connect Urban Gardeners with resources.

volunteer spotlight! meet marsha

We love our volunteers and interns! We have an amazing group of folks who regularly take time out of their schedules to help us keep Creative Reuse running, and we wanted to let the world know how awesome they are. Meet our first-ever volunteer in the spotlight, Marsha!

Marsha spent over 110 hours in 2015 helping us untangle and sort fabric, ribbon, yarn, buttons, and greeting cards. We asked her why she loves volunteering with Creative Reuse, and here's what she had to say:
"I just love your mission and your purpose. It's eye opening. I've learned to make all kinds of weird things. I love experimenting. And you let me do that, and help me do it, which is fun."
Thanks, Marsha! We're happy to have you in our shop and in our lives. If you're interested in volunteering with Creative Reuse, check out the available opportunities on
our website or email our volunteer coordinator at We hope we see you soon!
