The Orlando Pulse shooting; the murders of Alton Sterling, Philando Castile and Delrawn Small. Recent tragedies in the U.S. have brought social justice movements to the forefront of national attention, leaving many people who wondering how they can help promote equality and justice. The Caltech Graduate Student Council is offering a workshop for grads about allyship and the ways aspiring allies can learn the roles allies play,  tips and techniques to allyship, and an opportunity to practice these skills.

UG Research Submissions now being accepted for CURJ
CURJ is Caltech's award-winning undergraduate research journal, dedicated to highlighting the accomplishments of undergraduates conducting research at Caltech or JPL**. The journal is written in an accessible style to reach a broad audience, and all research articles are written by the undergraduates themselves.
 
We invite you to submit your work in any research field.  General article requirements are very flexible, and if your article is selected for publication you will work with an editor who will help you revise your paper for final publication in CURJ.  For submission guidelines and more information, go to

Interactive Teaching Statement Peer Review Workshop

we’ll review a rubric for reading a teaching statement and facilitate small group discussions in which you’ll receive and provide constructive feedback on colleagues’ statements.
 
This workshop will be held on Thursday, August 11th at 2pm at the CTLO (3rd floor, CSS) and will be led by Dr. Jennifer Weaver, Assistant Director of the Caltech Center for Teaching, Learning, & Outreach, and hosted by the Caltech Postdoc Association. It is open to all members of the Caltech community. 
 
Please bring four copies of your teaching statement with you to the workshop!

Curious about careers for PhD's not in academia?  Two speakers will be coming to campus on consecutive Fridays 8/5 and 8/12 at 10am in Crellin 151 to discuss how they transitioned from a PhD grad student to working outside academia.  Come join them for cookies and coffee in an informal discussion on their career path.  Please RSVP using the attached flier so there is enough food to go around.
