December Events -- Uptown, Downtown, it's our Town!

Dec. 2, Jefferson County Historical Society First Friday LectureIn the Port Townsend City Council Chambers, 540 Water Street, 7 pm.

Dec. 2-3, Kiwanis Dinner and a Murder fundraiser, America's Next Top Monster. Funds raised benefit PT Kiwanis and OlyCap's children's programs. Tickets are $55, doors open at 5 pm, show begins at 6 pm, and dinner catered by The Belmont will start around 7 pm. 

Dec. 3, Toys for Tots hosted by Kiwanis “Fill the Bus with Toys“, Mo-Chilli BBQ, and Paella House. Every year Kiwanis, Toys for Tots and Christmas for Kids along with Jefferson County Transit parks a bus at the Port Townsend Visitors Center Parking Lot on Sims way from 9 am - 3 pm. Drop by and drop off a toy, or a donation; have a cup of coffee or a bite to eat. This year Mo-Chilli BBQ and Paella House will be offering food and donating all profits to the program. 

Dec. 3, Main Street Treelighting Celebration and Santa Visit. There’s caroling in the streets with the Wild Rose Chorale from 1-3 pm, in-store refreshments and many shops will be open later. Come to Haller Fountain for the annual Community treelighting and Santa visit at 4:30 pm. Port Townsend school children created dozens of hand-made ornaments for the tree. Santa arrives by the Kiwanis Choo Choo Train to light the community tree. After the Treelighting, Santa visits with children at the Cotton Building, 607 Water Street. PLEASE NOTE: As in past years, for public safety, there will be no parking on Taylor Street from 3:30pm-5:30pm and the street will be closed to traffic from Water to Washington for the treelighting. Washington Street will be closed to traffic from Adams Street to Fillmore Street from 4pm-5:30 pm for the event. 

Dec. 3, First Saturday Art Walk hosted in galleries and stores. Great holiday gift ideas made by local artists. Enjoy refreshments and shop for artistic gifts you won’t find anywhere else.

Dec. 3, Jefferson Healthcare Foundation
Festival of Wreaths, 5:30 - 8:00 pm at 230 Taylor St. (thank you Coldwell Banker!) Featuring over 30 beautiful and artistic wreaths created by extraordinary designers in our community. The wreaths can be purchased and the proceeds will go towards the cancer care program at Jefferson Healthcare’s Oncology Clinic.  

Dec. 3-4, PT Shorts, free programs of dramatic readings of contemporary literature, read by critically acclaimed authors, actors, and good orators. Performances will be in Northwind’s downtown location at 701 Water St. at 7:30 pm on Dec. 3rd and 5:30 pm on Dec. 4th.
Dec. 5, The Chamber of Jefferson County will host Rebekah Fessenden of Seed Design at their lunch, at the Elks Lodge, from 12-1 pm. Learn about "Merchandising Tricks to Maximize Last Minute Holiday Sales"--merchants are encouraged to attend.
Dec. 8, Main Street Member Holiday Party! Join us as we say Thank You to our members for a fantastic year and honor the people and groups that have helped us accomplish it all. We could not do it without your help and participation! Celebrate with us at The Old Whiskey Mill, 1038 Water St. from 6-7:30 pm. Appetizers, beverages & dessert. $10 suggested donation. Dec. 10, Main Street/Kiwanis Choo Choo Rides for Families 1-4 pm; suggested donation of $5 per person benefits the arts in the schools program.

Dec. 10, Hand Work Studio Holiday Sale at The Cotton Building from 11- 7 pm. Shop from 16 local artisans for fantastic, one of a kind gifts for everyone on your list. 

Dec. 10, Visit the Port Townsend Saturday Farmers Market for your holiday gifts. When you give locally your give twice. You get an amazing and creative gift for your loved one and you support our local economy. Wow! Holiday Farmers Markets from 10 am to 2 pm inside of the Community Center. Farmers will be outside for your local produce needs.

Dec. 10,
Port Townsend School of the Arts Holiday Art Fair and Winter Open House, 11-4 pm.

Dec. 16, Gingerbread Contest at Flagship Landing - on display through January 14, 2017. Aldrich’s Gingerbread Contest is headed Downtown this year. Drop off your creations at FLAGSHIP LANDING, 1007 Water St. From Dec. 16th - Dec. 30th 2016, Judging Takes Place: January 7th, 2017. Rules and entry form here. The Gingerbread Contest will go back home to Aldrich's in 2017.
Dec. 17, Big Brass Yule Ball, Father Christmas will be on hand, along with plenty of mistletoe to steam up the holidays with music from Olympic Express Big Band. Whether you rock gears and goggles, bustle or bowler, this is holiday opportunity to come out and kick it old school at the American Legion from 8-11 pm. Coordinated by Olympic Peninsula Steam
Dec. 17, Open Parlor Tours: Visit historic inns and homes of Port Townsend with their halls bedecked for the holidays. Self-guided tours run 12-4 pm. Enjoy seasonal music and tasty treats. Tickets are $15. Details at

Dec. 23,
Paul Rogers' Holiday Hi-Jinx Allstar Show in the historic Wheeler Theater in Fort Worden, a fundraiser for the Jefferson County Winter Shelter in Port Townsend. 

Dec. 31, First Night Celebration coordinated by the Jefferson County Historical Society. All ages, alcohol-free, event featuring live music, children’s activities and the dropping of the anchor to ring in the new year.

About Time at 830 Water St. won the Gold award for their very merry window display—with a welcoming hearth that showcased holiday apparel ideas. Pictured left to right: About Time staff members Jan Hopfenbeck and Nancy Cherry Eifert. 
Olympic Art and Office at 220 Taylor St. won the Silver award for their blizzard of 600+ snowflakes –hand-made by their staff from coffee filters! Pictured: Owner Heidi Hoglund.

Once again, the Port Townsend Paper Corporation will hand out three-foot-high, three-dimensional Christmas trees made of Port Townsend Kraft paper and ask the locals to start decorating. Through Dec 7th, pick up your (free) Kraft tree and a copy of the contest rules at the following locations: Aldrich’s, the Chamber of Commerce Visitor’s Center, Henery’s Hardware, or Hadlock Building Supply. Join Port Townsend School of Arts at Pippa's Real Tea on Sunday, December 4th from 2-5 pm for Beads and Tea fundraiser! Stop by and create your own beautiful bracelets with the guidance of Jeweller, Suzy Louise and sip on a Pot of Tea. They will supply a variety of beads, memory wire and expertise. Select your personal Pot of Tea from over 100 varieties. Take home a couple of bright and beautiful gifts to stuff the stocking of a loved one or to wear on your next night out. A family-friendly event for all ages - $20.

The Old Whiskey Mill is hosting Hardware Distillery from Hoodsport on Dec. 1st from 5-8 pm. Ticket includes 4 spirit taste with a small tapas pairing, a signature cocktail, and an evening with the distiller to discuss his creative influences and techniques.

Siren's Brewer's Dinner series continues on Dec. 14th from 6-8 pm. This time they will feature Pfreim from Hood River Oregon. They will be coming up to share some of their fabulous brews that don't normally leave Oregon- much less their tasting room. The dinner includes a four course meal, a souvenir pint glass, and an evening with the brewer to discuss his beers and answer questions.  Call for reservations: 360-379-1100.

The Port Townsend Main Street Program is pleased to offer the opportunity to put your state B&O tax dollars to work here in Port Townsend through the work of our Main Street Tax Incentive Program.
It's never too early to start thinking about next year! Put Your State B&O Taxes To Work Here In Port Townsend Through The 2017 Main Street Tax Incentive Program. 75% of your donation is returned to you via B&O tax credits in 2018. In addition, your entire contribution may qualify as a 501(c)(3) charitable deduction on your 2017 federal income tax return.

The Port Townsend Main Street Program can receive up to $133,333 in contributions. Approvals are given each year on a first-come, first-served basis beginning at 12:01 am, January 1, 2017, made online through the Dept. of Revenue’s (DOR) website. DOR’s online portal will continue to accept tax credit contributions until the state cap of $1.5M in tax credits has been reached. And as in 2016, we do anticipate that the $1.5M tax credit cap will be met early in the 2017 year, so we encourage you to pledge early.
