Elections Policy
With Calgary’s 2017 municipal election one a year away, some community associations have asked for advice when board members run for election. It’s important for boards to remain nonpartisan and avoid the optics of a conflict of interest. Check out our

Vital Signs & Vital City
The Calgary Foundation released their annual Vital Signs report, along with a special Sense of Belonging insert, that we are mentioned in! Check them both out here.

AGLC Approves Community Gardens for Use of Proceeds
As part of AGLC’s ongoing commitment to work with Alberta non-profits, they have made an important amendment to their policies.  Effective July 2016, your organization can amend your “Use of Proceeds Approval” to use some of your gaming funds towards what AGLC calls “Aid of the Distressed, Section 3.2” which has been expanded to include community gardens that grow vegetables and fruit for the purposes of food sustainability for families and individuals.  Click here to read more.

Special Event Equipment Loans
Calgary Neighbourhoods is pleased to provide equipment to community associations and social recreation groups for special event programs. The Equipment Loan Agreement and the list of available equipment can be requested through your Neighbourhood Partnership Coordinator (NPC). For a list of what’s available click here.

WHMIS Updates
WHMIS is now changing from “Canadian” standards to an international “Global Harmonization System” (GHS). Groups with onsite chemicals have a couple years to learn about new standards and gradually meet compliance (2018). Check out popular WHIMS FAQs, and various training opportunities here.
