Passaic County Hires PGA Pro Martin Vyhibal to Operate Preakness Valley Golf Course
Martin ""Marty" Vyhibal was hired to be the new head of the Preakness Valley Golf Course. As a "Class A" PGA Pro, Martin will be the first PGA pro in modern history to run the course. After a nationwide search, Martin came ahead of 14 other candidates. Martin Vyhibal has twenty nine years of experience as a golf professional at public and private golf courses across the country. He has a distinguished playing career, including being voted one of the top ten New Jersey Junior Golfers of the Century in 2000.
“I am excited to be joining the County of Passaic and Preakness Valley Golf Course team to highlight this fantastic golf facility and bring new members and golfers to Wayne to see the great improvements that have been made over the last ten years,” stated Martin Vyhibal. “I am going to be reaching out to golfers of all ages about new programming, clinics, and tournaments that will be offered at Preakness Valley in the coming year. I look forward to meeting all of our members, staff, and partners as we embark upon an exciting golf season at Preakness Valley.”

Finance & Administration

Passaic County Backs Low Interest Loan to Paterson
The Passaic County Improvement Authority has put together a low interest loan for the City of Paterson to continue its sewer and road repair project. The City of Paterson, which has been struggling with its finances, as well as its infrastructure, has been attempting to finish a city-wide plan to perform much needed road reconstruction. The role of the Improvement Authority is to provide services and programs that improve the quality of life and to develop and provide financing for new and innovative programs that benefit the residents of Passaic County. This new loan will benefit Paterson, as well as all county residents. The Passaic County Improvement Authority has made similar deals in the past through programs like BANC, which just this year allowed Hawthorne and Wayne to purchase school supplies and buses, and have regular dealings with the businesses and non-profits in our community. For more info on the Improvement Authority you can call 973-881-4550.

Passaic County Saves Para-transit Services for West Milford Seniors
At the December 13th meeting of the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders, a memorandum of agreement with the Township of West Milford was approved. The agreement will maintain para-transit services for senior citizens and disabled residents in the Township. Under the new agreement, the single bus route will be phased out and replaced by dial-a-ride system — a curb-to-curb service that takes a person anywhere they want to go in the township, and will pick them up for a return trip home. The bulk of the county's para-transit services will be maintained in the more populated lower part of the county. Information on para-transit services for Passaic County can be found by calling (973) 305-5756.

Health & Energy

The Passaic County Weatherization Division is the county's core program intended to reduce energy costs to low-income persons by improving the energy efficiency of their homes while ensuring their health and safety. County-wide, weatherization benefits low-income households and communities and generates an average energy cost savings of $300-$500 per home each year. The Passaic County Weatherization Department is still taking calls. Don't go without heat this winter. You can call the department at 973-569-4032.

Parks & Projects

NY & NJ Trail Conference
The Passaic County Freeholders approved an agreement with the NY&NJ Trail Conference for the management, maintenance, and construction of several trails in the Passaic County Park System. The Memorandum of Understanding establishes a clear framework for the Passaic County Department of Parks and Recreation to work in partnership with the New York-New Jersey Trail Conference staff and extensive base of volunteers to ensure that the Passaic County Trail Network remains among the best in the State of New Jersey. The New York-New Jersey Trail Conference is a non-profit volunteer-driven organization located in Mahwah, New Jersey. Since its foundation, the Trail Conference has adopted, built, and maintained over 2,000 miles of publicly accessible and authorized trails in New York and New Jersey. Full article here.
