HIGHLANDS FEASIBILITY STUDY

The Passaic County Planning Department conducted a Feasibility Study to create the Highlands Greenway, a bicycle- and pedestrian-friendly pathway. The project would link bicyclist and pedestrians to the businesses civic uses and recreational opportunities along the constrained Ringwood Avenue corridor and provide a link between communities in northern and southern Passaic County. The greenway could utilize interpretive elements of the historic railroad and the scenic beauty along the corridor to create a regional draw for tourism and a source of local pride for Passaic County.

PASSAIC COUNTY OFFERING FREE HOME RADON TEST KITS

The Passaic County Department of Health is offering free radon test kits as part of a statewide effort to promote safety as well as awareness about the deadly radioactive gas. Radon, an odorless, invisible gas produced by decaying uranium or thorium, is the nation's second leading cause of lung cancer, according to the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Due to its prevalence throughout the state, the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (NJDEP) recommends all homes get tested for radon. For more information on radon or to reserve one of the free test kits, contact Allessio at 973-225-3651.

HOLIDAY SEASON

One of the many traditions on our calendar of events is the holiday boutique. The Passaic County Historical Society has hosted a holiday boutique in Lambert Castle for over 25 years. Now run by the Society itself, the boutique serves as the longest and largest fundraiser of the year for the Society. Open for most of the month of November, the boutique offers shoppers an assortment of festive holiday gifts, jewelry, seasonal decorations, crafts, collectibles and gourmet food in the historic atmosphere and ambience of Lambert Castle. Please contact the Passaic County Historical Society at 973-247-0085 ext. 201 to coordinate a date, make reservations for your party, and to arrange prepayment of admission for your group to gain preferred entry upon arrival.

DUTCH CHRISTMAS AT
DEY MANSION

Sunday, December 4th from 11:00am to 4:00pm, the Dey Mansion will be hosting A Dutch Christmas event to celebrate and kick-off the holiday season. For most children in the Netherlands, the most important day during December is the 6th, when Sinterklaas (St. Nicholas) brings them their presents! Come celebrate with us as we await the arrival of Sinterklaas, who will be making a special appearance, along with men at arms from New Jersey’s local militia. The mansion will be fully decorated for the event, and the day will also be filled with 18th century dancing, food, music, demonstrations, artisans, and more. $5 per person. For more info or to make a reservation, you can contact kellyr@passaiccountynj.org or call 973-696-1776 for more info.
