YES Partnership News
In September, 2013, YES (Youth Employment Strategy) Partnership held its inaugural Annual General Meeting. This week, at the Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel on Tuesday (13 September), YES celebrated its third, busy year which has seen 240 young people from six local schools successfully complete their Motivation and World of Work Conferences, local businessmen enjoying the three business breakfasts and another very successful “Investors in Young People” awards evening.

The YES Conferences are held at the Waltham Abbey Marriott Hotel and bring young people into a business environment where they are treated as delegates and work with adult facilitators from business on a day’s programme including talks, workshops and interactive activities. Their day includes lunch in the Thyme Restaurant and they receive certificates of attendance to add to their CVs.

Our Committee, now 21 members, has enlarged to include representatives from education, business, youth organisations, Job Centre Plus, local residents and officers from Epping Forest District Council. Many of our members were involved in the initial pilot events and they have been joined, this year, by 6 new members, who have bought the essential specialist knowledge and skills that are so vital for success. Looking forward, it was announced that Epping Forest College and the DWP may attend a new conference aimed at a slightly older age group and that two additional schools may also join the next round of conferences: this taking the total of students participating to 320.

Conferences are delivered free to the young people and this is made possible by the voluntary input of local professionals and businesses and fund raising.

Please note the following events that have been arranged for the forthcoming year

7th October - Quiz Night - Loughton Library at 7.00pm

6th October - Facilitator Training - Epping Forest College at 1.30pm

10th November - ”Investors in Young People” Awards - Marriott Hotel at 6.30pm.
